Sneaking into a handkerchief, parking in a mouse hole: compactness is the very essence of a city car . This explains why this third generation of i10 does not lengthen, remaining under 3.70 m like its direct rivals ( Kia Picanto , Renault Twingo , Peugeot 108 …). The mini Korean takes the opportunity, however, to review its proportions, it which widens and lowers by 2 cm, while the wheelbase increases by 4 cm .

Sexier outside than inside

She also appears sexier with her worked sides and her assertive gaze. A seduction reinforced on the superior Edition finish by a roof and mirrors painted in black, which contrast with the bright colors offered (blue and red in particular). On board, on the other hand, gray and black dominate , just to affirm the perceived quality. At this price, do not expect beautiful limousine plastics, but the seriousness of the assembly reassures , while the layout is worthy of a “big” . With the proviso that the steering wheel is not perfectly installed, the latter being adjustable only in height.

The equipment package

On the Edition, the inevitable touch screen displays 8 inches (3.8 inches on the others), with fashionable functions (Android auto, Apple CarPlay). Hyundai has put the package on the equipment , even if among the slew of assistance delivered as standard, the lane keeping aid and the fatigue detection prove to be as unconvincing as usual . At the rear, two occupants are decently received. The Edition even offers three belts, but the limited width will prevent three adults from cohabiting in good conditions . As for the trunk, no miracle, it is not very large (50 cm deep, 252 dm² announced). However, it is a good idea to offer a fairly practical lifting floor.

At ease in the city, well served by a conciliating gearbox order, the mini-Korean has no excessive road claims , despite the balance displayed here by our test models equipped with 16-inch wheels fitted in Michelin Primacy 3. A pneumatic tire for the moment not available in France – it will arrive in May on the N Line version with a 1.0 turbo of 100 hp . In France, the i10 will have to be content, for the moment, with 14 and 15 inches (on Edition). Which should, at least, improve the filtration of road unevenness, quite average with our “sporty” ride.

Noisy on the highway

Reassuring to drive but noisy on the highway, the Korean is short of breath anyway in the two variants offered . The choice comes down to two small petrol engines, a 1.0 of 67 hp and a 1.2 of 84 hp. The first is the most recommendable . Not very vibrant for a three-cylinder, it appears, for use as valiant as its big brother with four-cylinders supposed to offer 17 hp more.

Progress not sold out

The fact remains that Hyundai is not selling off the progress of its i10 . Certainly better equipped than before, it does not appear at less than € 11,990 (price on January 2, 2020), when its most serious rival and cousin, the convincing Kia Picanto, starts from € 11,290 with the same 1.0 of 67 ch.
